Self-examination of privileges

Have you stopped for a moment to reflect on the privileges you have?

At Belonging, we believe that recognizing your privileges is one of the most powerful actions you can do at an individual level for inclusion. Having privileges does not imply that life has been easy for you or that you are a bad person, but it is about the absence of certain obstacles and the presence of positive unearned advantages that society offers you according to your identity.

The following self-examination will allow you to identify 10 potential privileges present in our societies in Latin America. Imagine that in your professional/job development you have a ladder to move up. Each step of the ladder represents a privilege. Logically, if you have all 10 steps, you will be able to move up faster in your career. Can you imagine going up the stairs with just one step? The distance is the same for all people, but the obstacles faced by the presence and absence of steps, will define the opportunities you have to progress in your career.

At the end of the self-assessment, you will be able to access a brief explanation of why this aspect of people’s identity is a privilege in our societies.

If you are interested in knowing how many steps there are on your ladder, we invite you to access the following link where you will find the self-examination of privileges form: Discovering my own privileges – Self-examination
